The Ministry of Planning and Development, in collaboration with affiliated institutions, has officially handed over residential homes built for vulnerable individuals in Seqota City under the Wag-Himra Zone Administration. This initiative was carried out as part of their goodwill service program.
These homes, constructed during the last winter season as part of the ministry's ongoing charitable projects in Seqota, aim to alleviate challenges faced by vulnerable populations. The initiative reflects the ministry's commitment to social responsibility and community support.
According to Mr. Mohammed Tahir, representative of the Ministry of Planning and Development and Head of the Finance Directorate, this project is part of the ministry's annual goodwill service program. Over the years, similar initiatives have been implemented across various cities to provide housing for vulnerable individuals, in addition to support for educational resources and other community needs.
In 2016 E.C., the ministry and its affiliated institutions allocated over 9.4 million ETB to launch the construction of ten residential homes for vulnerable groups in Seqota City. Today, the construction has been successfully completed, and the homes were officially handed over to the beneficiaries.
Mr. Alemayehu Tekeste, Head of the Policy Research Institute, emphasized that the ministry and its partners are committed to strengthening their goodwill service programs. This dedication underscores their societal responsibility to address pressing community needs.
Mr. Hailu Germay, Chief Administrator of the Wag-Himra Zone, highlighted previous goodwill efforts, including the construction and renovation of housing for 138 individuals from low-income families during last year’s program. He noted that today’s handover of homes, constructed with meticulous planning and care, marks another milestone in supporting the most vulnerable members of the community.
Deputy Mayor of Seqota City, Mr. Getnet Eshetu, expressed his appreciation for the goodwill initiative and praised the quality and uniqueness of the completed project. He noted that the ten homes will directly benefit 33 family members, providing them with dignified living conditions.
Among the recipients, Mr. Abas Berhanu and Mrs. Elfnesh Tadesse shared their joy and gratitude, stating that receiving these fully furnished homes has brought a significant improvement to their lives and a sense of stability.
This project not only reflects the Ministry’s dedication to enhancing social welfare but also demonstrates its commitment to sustainable development by addressing the housing needs of the vulnerable.
