The purpose of this training was to bring together key stakeholders and experts emanating from key public institutions, private sector representatives, financial sector representatives, etc. to receive an in-depth training on the Carbon Market, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and the World Bank's Standardized Crediting Framework as well as voluntary carbon market.
The training brought together about 40 participants and supported with presentations, breakout sessions and report backs, peer to peer experience sharing as well as a pilot carbon trade project field visit.
The training enhanced and scaled up the skills and knowledge of the participants in the field of carbon market and the implementation of the Standardized Crediting Framework in Ethiopia.
Prior to this technical and in-depth training, high level national steering committee has received a high-level insight about the carbon market architecture and thoroughly discussed how to explore carbon trading in Ethiopia. The training on 27 Jan 2025 had been brought together the steering committee members from higher official from the key sectors that was led by the H.E. Ato Seyoum Mekonnen, State Minister of Ministry of Planning and Development.
Ethiopia is working on the Carbon Market National Strategy and a Legal Framework to govern the overall carbon market crediting mechanism in Ethiopia.
In his opening remark, H.E. Mr. Seyoum Mekonen underlined that the training is a crucial for the Ministry of Planning and Development's efforts in establishing a system that governs carbon market in Ethiopia. This training serves as one of the series of stakeholders' engagement efforts to play their role in green growth and climate change agenda.
