Minister of Planning and Development, H. E Dr. Fitsum Asefa, had a discussion with New Zealand's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Michael Upton, at her office.
Their discussion mainly focused on climate change prevention and Home-Grown Economic Reform Phase Two.
H. E Dr. Fitsum Asefa, has stated that Ethiopia has implemented different effective activities in climate protection and action. She said that the government is working on building a green economy that is invulnerable to climate change in accordance with international policies, strategies and plans, including green legacy incitive.
The Minister stated that the government announced a Long-Term Low Emission Strategy (LT_LEDS) to reach zero carbon emissions in Ethiopia by 2050 and create 865 thousand green jobs annually.
She also explained that adequate preparations are being made for the 28th UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
New Zealand's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Michael Upton, on his part, expressed to the H.E Minister, Dr. Fitsum Asefa, that they will strengthen the cooperation activities they have started with the Ethiopian government in technology, service sector, renewable energy development, governance, and agricultural works. The ambassador announced that New Zealand will support peace efforts through the National Dialogue Commission.
 H. E Dr. Fitsum Asefa, who gave a detailed explanation about the Content, key focuses and pillars of the second phase of the Home-Grown Economic Reform, mentioned that there are good opportunities in Ethiopia if the two countries work together more on investment.
The ambassador confirmed that New Zealand is interested in supporting Ethiopia in human resources development through short and long term trainings and education.
