The Ministry of Planning and Development of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is delighted to share that a high-level bilateral meeting was convened with the African Union Commission (AUC) to advance strategic preparations for the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), set to be hosted in Addis Ababa in early September 2025.
The Ethiopian delegation, led by H.E. Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Minister of Planning and Development, and H.E. Dr. Gedion Timotheos, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held constructive discussions with H.E. Mr. Moses Vilakati, AUC Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment. The meeting centered on aligning priorities and outlining a robust framework to ensure ACS2 delivers transformative outcomes for Africa’s climate agenda.
Both parties reiterated their unwavering dedication to making ACS2 a pivotal summit, poised to drive meaningful progress and resonate deeply across the continent and beyond. To ensure seamless collaboration, dedicated contact points were established, with a commitment to work diligently and in close coordination to achieve a successful summit.
This meeting builds on the resolution of the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit in February 2025, which designated Ethiopia as the host of ACS2.
In attendance were H.E. Mr. Seyoum Mekonen, State Minister of Planning and Development, and H.E. Ambassador Hirut Zemene, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the African Union and UNECA, underscoring Ethiopia’s whole-of-government commitment to the summit’s success.
The Ministry of Planning and Development reaffirms its resolute partnership with the AUC and all stakeholders to deliver an impactful Second Africa Climate Summit that advances sustainable development and strengthens Africa’s unified voice on climate action.
