The Ethiopian Agriculture Sector Registers Growth Beyond the Plan in the First 3 Years of the Ten-Year Development Plan (2013-2015 E.C) -The Ministry of Planning and Development.

The main achievements of the first 3 years of the ten-year plan (2013-2015 E.C) indicate that the agricultural sector has registered growth beyond the plan, according to the report issued by the Ministry of Planning and Development. According to the report, the growth of the agricultural sector increased from 5.1% in 2013E.C to 5.8% in 2014 and 6̄.3% in 2015E.C.

Among the sub-sectors under the sector, crop production has the largest share in the growth of agriculture and has contributed 65.5% to the growth of the sector. It can also be seen in the report that forest had 8.6% share and animals had 25.9% share.

In 2015, the total crop production was planned to be 627 million quintals and 639 million quintals were produced. Along with this, regarding the land covered by seeds, increased from 13 million hectares in 2012E.C to 14.06 million hectares in 2015E.C.

Through irrigation, it was possible to increase wheat production from 0.6 million quintals in 2013 to 47 million quintals in 2015 E.C.

In terms of animal production performance in the agricultural sector, the animal development sub-sector has grown by an average of 8.4% over the last 2 years and is 0.8% higher than the 10-year plan.

In the harvest season, small farmers' crop production and small farmers' and large farms' irrigated crops, vegetables, fruits and root crops are the sectors that have seen a significant growth transition.
