Ministry of Planning and Development Advances Evaluation Agenda at AfrEA 25th Anniversary

H.E Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Minister for the Minister of Planning and Development stated that Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its ongoing work to expand the evaluation system within the country and across Africa, in collaboration with African and Ethiopian evaluation associations.

The Minister made this statement today at the opening of the 25th anniversary celebration of the African Evaluation Association, held at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa. Dr. Fitsum noted that over the past quarter-century, the African Evaluation Association has been a symbol of excellence in promoting evaluation across the continent.

H.E. Dr. Fitsum further explained that celebrating the 25th anniversary in Ethiopia is not only symbolic but also highly appropriate, given Addis Ababa’s status as the center of African unity, a hub for policy dialogues, and a showcase for institutional development. Accordingly, she clarified that the Ministry of Planning and Development will continue to strengthen its efforts to work closely with African and Ethiopian evaluation associations to expand the evaluation system.

Dr. Fitsum highlighted that the Ministry of Planning and Development is undertaking concrete evaluation measures on federal government institutions. The Minister explained that key achievements in the country’s evaluation process include: developing and implementing a national evaluation policy framework; incorporating an evaluation system into the Ten-Year Development Plan; ensuring timely and rigorous evaluations of public investments; successfully introducing the "One Plan, One Report" system; and digitizing monitoring and evaluation systems.
