The two parties applauded the strong and impactful partnership and cooperation of the two Sisterly Countries. They have also recognized the strong partnership demonstrated during the preparation and on COP29.
The two parties shared perspectives on COP29 outcomes and explored future collaboration towards better outcomes in the future in international engagements. Both parties expressed their appreciation of the overall results of COP29. They appreciated the conclusion of discussions on article 6 of the Paris Agreement (carbon market). However, they shared concerns on some decisions including decisions on climate finance and mitigation.
H.E. Dr. Fitsum highlighted Ethiopia’s challenge that the climate change is posing. She expressed Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to tackle climate change nationally and will play its role for constructive engagement of Africa region to lead the process by example.
H.E. the Minister of Planning and Development also briefed the Danish Minister of Finance about the flagship green agenda actions across the various sectors and coordination such as Green Legacy, Food system transformation, transport, corridor development for city rehabilitation and urban greening.
The Danish Finance Minister appreciated the leadership of Ethiopia hoping that other African countries will follow Ethiopia’s example. The Minister also congratulates Ethiopia for an integrated approach of climate action through Green Legacy initiative.
The Danish Minister expressed Denmark’s commitment to work closely with Ethiopia in driving climate agenda and he also expressed the Denmark’s commitment to stronger development cooperation.
The discussion further extended to the comprehensive economic reforms Ethiopia has embarked on and strengthening cooperation in areas of Trade and Investment. H.E. Dr. Fitsum elaborated on the people-centered and sustainable long term development aspirations of the Government of Ethiopia. The Danish side also highlighted the forthcoming new country programming that will address the reform agenda especially in food and agriculture system transformation.
Finally, H.E. Dr. Fitsum shared the Government’s ambition to host the Africa Climate Summit 2025 and envisioning to host COP32 of UNFCCC in 2027. The Danish side have confirmed their support in this regard.
The two parties agreed to continue working towards expanding the partnerships under the agreement framework made through the MOU signed between two countries at COP29 and beyond.
