Minister Dr. Fitsum, highlighted Ethiopia’s remarkable strides in sustainable development and climate resilience, emphasizing the country’s leadership in the AU Comprehensive Agriculture Development Program (CADP) under the visionary guidance of H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. The minister stated that several initiatives were spearheaded by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, including the Green Legacy Initiative, which is a nationwide movement to combat climate change through massive tree planting, promoting environmental sustainability and green growth. The minister added that Ethiopia has planted 40 billion trees, which increases the forest coverage of the country be 6%. The minister also indicated those significant portions of the trees planted are fruit bearing tress.

The other remarkable achievement that the minister has shared is the National Wheat Initiative, where Ethiopia has achieved wheat self-sufficiency through dual-season production, utilizing both rain-fed and irrigation-based farming, reducing imports and ensuring national food security.

The minister also talked about the other important initiative, which is the Yelemat Tirufat (Bounty of the Basket). This comprehensive program empowers the communities to produce essential nutritious food such as dairy, poultry and more. Ethiopia is able to attain food security through food availability and accessibility, ensuring a resilient and prosperous food system.

Dr. Fitsum indicated that these initiatives stand as best practices not only for Africa but for the world, showcasing Ethiopia's leadership in climate resilience and food security.
