Ethiopian Finance Minister Highlights Climate Actions at COP28 UAE

Ethiopian Minister of Finance H.E. Ahmed Side emphasized the country’s commitment to climate action during his opening speech at the Horn of Africa Development Initiative (HODI) panel at COP28 UAE.
H.E. Ahimed Shide highlighted the government’s Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy, the Green Legacy Initiative, and other climate change initiatives.
He also discussed the impacts of climate change on Ethiopia and the East African region.
The minister called on developed countries to provide more financial and technical support to developing countries to help them address climate change.
The CRGE strategy is Ethiopia’s national plan for achieving sustainable development. The strategy aims to promote economic growth while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building resilience to climate change.
On the panel , the IGAD CEO Dr. Workineh Gebeyehu and other representatives of IGAD countries and multi-lateral organizations stated that Climate change is already having a significant impact on the East African region. The region is experiencing more frequent and severe droughts, floods, and other extreme weather events. These events are causing food insecurity, water scarcity, and displacement.
The panelist called on all countries to take concrete action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address the climate crisis.
Ethiopia is taking a leading role in addressing climate change in the Horn of Africa. The country’s climate change initiatives are helping to reduce emissions, build resilience, and create a more sustainable future
