Efforts to institutionalize evaluation as a tool for fostering good governance and bringing about fundamental change in inclusive sustainable development are being strengthened and will continue, announced Mrs. Tirumar Abate, State Minister for the Ministry of Plan and Development.

The State Minister made these remarks today at the conclusion of the 25th-anniversary continental conference of the African Evaluation Association (AfrEA), a three-day event.
H.E Tirumar stated that the three-day conference was a foundational event for knowledge transfer, experience sharing, and the generation of new ideas among participants in the evaluation sector. She emphasized that discussions on fundamental issues and policy-level ideas revealed that evaluation is more than just a technical tool; it is a capacity for fundamentally transforming good governance and inclusive sustainable development.

She explained that the Ethiopian government is giving high priority to evaluation and is working with commitment to foster a culture of evidence-based policymaking and decision-making. By establishing robust Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems, the government is taking practical steps to ensure transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in public service delivery.

Furthermore, State Minister Tirumar noted that the government is investing in strengthening national evaluation systems, enhancing institutional capacity, and integrating evaluation frameworks into development programs and policies. She elaborated that active efforts are underway within ministries and government agencies to institutionalize evaluation and ensure that lessons learned from performance inform the nation's development path.

The State Minister added that Ethiopia is committed to contributing its part to the success of the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She explained the importance of working towards the realization of our shared aspiration for a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated Africa within these two frameworks. In this regard, she stated that evaluation is a critical tool that helps to identify what works and what does not, and above all, ensures that no one is left behind.
