Ethiopia Set to Host Second Africa Climate Summit in September: A Call for Accelerated Green Action

========================================================================

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia | June 16, 2025

Following a media briefing conducted today at the Ministry of Planning and Development, it is officially announced that the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, in collaboration with the African Union, will host the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) from September 8-10, 2025. Preceded by preparatory engagements from September 5-7, the summit will take place at the Addis International Convention Center (AICC) in Addis Ababa.

The Ministry of Planning and Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and the African Union Commission are the primary conveners of the Summit, which serves as a pivotal platform to enhance coordination, accelerate climate action, and amplify Africa’s priorities on the global stage.

The summit addresses the urgent need for robust climate finance, as Africa faces disproportionate climate impacts despite its minimal greenhouse gas contributions. Ethiopia, with its proven commitment through initiatives like the Green Legacy Initiative, will showcase African-led solutions for a resilient and sustainable future. Approximately 25,000 participants are expected to attend.

ACS2 is Africa’s definitive platform to galvanize unified action and accelerate the journey towards a prosperous, climate-resilient continent.
