Ethiopia today hosted a crucial consultation with diplomatic and delegation missions, underscoring the urgent need for global financial and technical support for the upcoming 2nd Africa Climate Summit (ACS2).
The session featured opening remarks by H.E. Dr. Gedion Timothewos, Minister of Foreign Affairs, setting a collaborative tone for the discussions. The consultation was expertly moderated by H.E. Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Minister of Planning and Development, Ethiopia.
Discussions highlighted Africa’s disproportionate vulnerability to climate change impacts despite its minimal contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions. The forum emphasized that while African nations are actively undertaking homegrown climate initiatives like Ethiopia's Green Legacy, these efforts require substantial and equitable international financial and technological backing to achieve their full potential.
Mr. Abas Mohammed, CEO at the Ministry of Planning and Development presented a comprehensive concept note detailing the Vision, Objectives, and Structure of ACS2. The agenda served as a direct call for accelerated financial and technical support, aiming to unlock grant-based climate finance and foster sustainable investment opportunities across the continent.
The consultation stressed that strong and continued partnerships are vital to ensure ACS2 delivers transformative outcomes for Africa's resilient and green development.
